Well it’s the first day after a whopping 9 hr. back surgery for my daughter. Yesterday was rough and nerve racking for all as a “typical” scoliosis surgery takes 6-8hrs but they said normally 6.5hrs. At the apex of her curve there was an abnormal bone structure that wasn’t detected on the MRI due to placement. They had to stop the traditional method used for most teenagers for hardware replacement and get a higher tech one. All went well after that.
I almost cried when I saw her. Face all swollen, still asleep, looked rough but what was I expecting? Last night was very rough pain wise. She vomited once and almost did another time. It hurts to lift her head even. I was giving her water because she could lift her arms up. This morning they tell me they plan on changing medication and getting her up and into a chair for a couple hours, twice. This girl is tough but told me “I’m in so much pain I wish I stayed curvy.” But we all know all scoliosis does is it gets worse and worse and she’s only 16 yrs old with a near 60% curvature.
Anywho, she did it! She almost vomited but got up and with help walked to a chair, sat a couple hours. Now she’s back in bed. I saw her spirits lift as she realized she could do it. So day 1 so far is a success.
I also bought a new book before coming here and just found my way to a cafe here in the hospital and got a vanilla soy latte. ( I’m lactose intolerant) It’s delicious. My book is coming along good! Hope I can find my way to that cafe tomorrow, this hospital is HUGE!! With COVID there’s so many restrictions and doors you can go through, but can’t come back that way. It’s confusing to this redhead!

I’m so glad Day 1 went well! I hope they can get that pain under control!! Thinking of you guys!
Thank youuuuu Leafy!!! ❤️
Fabulous news it went well and I’m so relieved it’s over for you. Recovery now!! Good for getting that book and treating yourself to a latte. Do what you can to get through I say! Oh and those emojis 🤦♀️🤷♀️😂😂😂
❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much Claire!!! ❤️❤️❤️ 😘😘😘 Yeah and I can’t figure out how to remove them and also when I tried it said “type to write here “ or something like that so I wrote those captions under them. 😂😂😂
That’s one tough little girl! I hope they can stop the pain.
Thanks so much, Dwight! By evening she had made even a little more progress. It will be a hard recovery but the worst is over and went well, which is a big relief!
Bless her – a big ordeal for her and you! She sounds very strong – enjoy your book and love and hugs to you both 💞💞
Big thanks for your love and hugs!!! 😍
More hugs to your daughter!

PS – I LOVED that book!
Thanks so much Wendy! I am currently right in the middle of the book and every time I put it down I can’t wait to pick it back up! So so good!
